Phase Inversion in Liquid-Liquid Dispersions
Background In a system of two immiscible liquids, usually water (or an aqueous solution) and an organic liquid (e.g. an oil), there are two general types of dispersions which can be formed depending on the conditions of the system. A water-in-oil (W/O) dispersion is a dispersion formed when the aqueous phase is dispersed in the organic phase and an oil-in-water (O/W) dispersion is a dispersion ...
متن کاملDrop-breakage in Agitated Liquid-liquid Dispersions
Experimental data from batch vessels on cumulative volumetric drop-size distributions at various times are shown to yield useful information on probabilities of droplet-breakup as a function of drop-size. Such information is sufficient for a priori prediction of drop-sizes in agitated dispersions in batch and continuous vessels. It may also be useful in predicting heat and/or mass transfer in l...
متن کاملAsymptotic behaviour of liquid-liquid dispersions
Based on earlier results on existence, we study the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to the coalescence-breakage equations, including the volume-scattering phenomenon and high-energy collisions. The solutions are shown to converge towards one particular equilibrium, provided the kernels satisfy a kind of reversibility. We also derive stability of these equilibria in a suitable topology. متن کاملCoalescence of Charged Droplets in Agitated Liquid-Liquid Dispersions
Experimental studies have been performed to assess the effect of drop charge on turbulent drop coalescence. Although it is well known that surface charge can affect coalescence rates of Brownian particles in a quiescent medium, no studies have been found in the literature which explicitly examine charge effects on larger drops in turbulent media. Results demonstate that drop charge can substant...
